Vintage Southwest Wedding Shower

I am so excited to share this Vintage Southwest Wedding Shower with you! With everything that’s going on in the world right now, it can be hard to find the positives right now. I hope this quick, lighthearted post is as fun to read as it was for me to write!

My sister-inlaw has a wedding planned for September in Mexico. The shower was supposed to be here in Texas so everyone from home could celebrate. Unfortunately Covid-19 hindered any success on finding a local venue. BOOOO! Don’t worry, The Yellow Rose Farmhouse is here for it! I was so excited when I was asked to host the shower for one of my favorite couples!

I love home decor but when it comes to decorating for a party or shower, I’m so clueless! It can be hard to think outside of MY box and create something that doesn’t necessarily match up with my personal style. The pressure was on since the wedding itself is still in question because of the stinking virus.

I racked my brain and searched Pinterest for days trying to decide how I could turn my home into the wedding shower of their dreams (I honestly doubt people are dreaming of wedding showers but….I just made it a thing). Finally, I found some inspiration and I was off.

Bits of Blue & Rose Gold

One of the bridesmaids created the cutest succulent shower invitations to go along with their Mexico wedding. I loved all the bright colors and I’m already a huge fan of succulents. The bride’s favorite color is blue. So I combined all those ideas and just went for it.

I was ready to get started decorating but I ran into a small problem. I don’t really have anything blue in my house. My first stop was Goodwill. I wanted to see if I could find any blue treasures that would bring my vision to life without breaking the bank. And what do you know?! I found some of the prettiest blue bottles and vases that fit perfectly with my theme.

My next stops included Hobby Lobby and Lowes for some more terracotta pots and succulents. You can never have too many of either of those. I really lucked out because all of their pots at Hobby Lobby were 50% when I was there. SCORE!

Lastly, I bought a few finishing pieces from Amazon. Things like table runners, a Macrame wall hanging for the mantle and some rose gold candle holders. I was so happy with how everything turned out. It was such a great day with family and friends. I hope the sweet couple was blessed by it 🙂

Master Bedroom Refresh

I’m calling this our Master Bedroom Refresh rather than a renovation. To be clear, we did make adjustments and renovate our bedroom. However, it’s amazing how some thoughtful decor and paint can totally transform a room. Those changes are what I want to highlight in our Farmhouse Master Bedroom Refresh.

But First, The Renovations

If you read about our Master Bathroom Renovation, then you know that we took out the closet in there to make more room. So one of the adjustments we made to our bedroom was adding another closet. I can’t believe we were able to make it work and still have as much space as we do in here. There was already a closet directly on the other side of one of the walls so we just added a door to that dividing wall and reinvented the space a little.

The only other “big” change we made was the lighting. We removed the ceiling fan and added can lighting and this beautiful pendant light. I like it cold at night but we have two thermostats in the house and we can keep our room pretty cool without a fan. I’m glad we made this choice because I think the pendant light adds so much character and charm to this room.

Our Paint Choices

Onto the paint. I don’t have anything against homes that have different themes and color schemes in every room. That just isn’t for me. I guess I’m not very adventurous when it comes to my style. I want our home to feel like it all flows together. One way to keep that flow is through a color scheme and paint. We used the same paint colors all throughout the house. No matter where you are in the house, you’ll see greys, whites, blacks and greens. I’m drawn to neutral and earthy colors. So much so, that even my closet is filled with clothes that are the same neutral and earthy tones.

Our Bedroom Furniture

Our bedroom suite has the prettiest chippy white paint color ever. I was so excited when I stumbled upon these pieces. I knew I had to have this set for our room. The suite really ties everything together in this room and adds a very rustic farmhouse feel. We are lucky to have a place local that’s always stocked with the cutest and most unique furniture and relics. If you’re ever in my neck of the woods, you have to stop in Merrimac & North. Did I mention there’s also a bakery inside with yummy, homemade treats?  What more does a girl need?!

Meaningful Decor

Last but not least, the decor! I’m sure you’ve noticed by now that this is my favorite part. Always! I’m constantly switching things out and rearranging. I’m convinced that just a few tweaks can totally change a space. Some of the decor in here came from antique shows, some came from websites and some came from so long ago that I can’t even remember where I got it. But the pieces that are my favorite are the ones that hold special meaning to me.

When Chad proposed he laid out a path of yellow roses (My favorite! Obvs! 😉) and he read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. AWWWW! I love those two signs with those verses because I’m reminded daily of what our love should look like and how much our love has grown since that moment. Ok, I’m done with the sappy, mushy stuff. My point is, I could’ve easily replaced those signs with something cuter, more unique or trendy (like those basket walls that I’m obsessed with right now). Instead, I think you should choose pieces that mean something to you. Fill your home with pieces that tell YOUR story.
